Mentorship

Apra-NW's Mentor Program is available to current Apra-NW members. The Mentorship program provides members who are new to the field or those seeking help with a specific prospect development challenge and opportunity to connect with another Apra-NW member who can offer support and guidance.

How the Mentorship Program Works

The program works by pairing experienced prospect development Apra-NW member with a member who is new to the field, seeking assistance, or looking to become more connected and involved in the world of prospect development.

Mentorship Program Testimonials

Mentee testimony from Anne Melton, Assistant Director, University Relations Research, University of Puget Sound:

"I have the Apra-NW mentorship program to thank for my career in prospect research. I had worked in development for several years but wanted to apply my fundraising background to a new career path without starting from scratch. I found the Apra-NW website and couldn't believe I had never heard of this niche in development work! After signing up for a membership, I enrolled in the mentorship program so I could gain some practical experience and learn from someone in the field. By a magical stroke of luck, I was matched with the illustrious Cecilia Hogan who shared the ins and outs of the sector and gave me homework to practice my research skills. A few months after meeting, a research position opened up at Cecilia's organization and she encouraged me to apply. Much to my delight, I was hired! Four years later, I continue to love my work."

Mentee testimony from Kim Brown, Associate Director, Prospect Alerts at the University of Utah:

“I’ll admit it feels a little deceptive to be called a mentor when it often feels like I don’t know everything or still have so much to learn about our work, but having been in the prospect development space for over a decade, I realize I do have a lot of knowledge and advice to share.  Meeting with my mentee is a great opportunity to take a step back from my daily tasks, and I look forward to our weekly chats. Our conversations are very often collaborative and have given me a chance to reflect on my current and previous work. We all have important insights to pass along to each other so I encourage everyone to consider becoming a mentor!"
